2017 Travel Recap

2017 Travel Recap

I can’t believe that 2017 is almost over.  It felt like I was ringing in the new year yesterday.  Am I the only one that feels that way?  This time of year really puts me in a reflective mode.  It makes me think of the travel goals that I set out to accomplish over the year and it gets me thinking about the goals that I want to cross off my list in the upcoming year.

In thinking of 2017, I’ll start off by saying that my list was pretty ambitious and overzealous.  My travel goals for 2017 included Grenada, Haiti, New York, Puerto Rico, and Aruba.  Let’s do a quick recap of the places I was actually able to visit.

Riverwalk - San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio

In March, I visited San Antonio.  This was my second visit to this city which is filled with culture.  I ended up returning to San Antonio in October and will be returning next week.  I really love San Antonio.  It is an easy city to get around and the food is amazing.

Gran Anse Beach, Grenada, Caribbean

In May, I revisited the beautiful island of Grenada.  This is by far my favorite island in the Caribbean.  My visit allowed me to be able to write a guest blogger post for Melanin Majority and afforded me the opportunity of being featured in ROAM Black magazine.  I would never have thought that my travels would allow me these great opportunities.

Bicentennial Capital Mall State Park, Nashville, Tennessee

My visit to Nashville was work-related.  I was pleasantly surprised by Nashville.  There was plenty to do and the food was yummy.  I’m hoping to get back to Nashville soon.

Royal Decameron Indigo Beach Resort & Spa, Haiti, Coconut

My sister hosted her destination wedding in July in Haiti.  About 80 people attended and it was nothing short of amazing.  This trip really opened my mind to the possibility of doing more group trips.  We had so much fun.

New York City Skyline, Skyscrapers

New York

Our second wedding for the month of July took place in New York.  We took this opportunity to visit with family and friends as well as do some sightseeing.  I even got to stay at an Airbnb for the first time.  It was great to visit NYC in the summertime.

Both of my parents celebrated their 65th birthdays earlier this year.  I didn’t get to do anything big during the time because of my sister’s wedding.  We had no choice but to delay our plans which included a cruise to Key West and Nassau.  Originally, we were scheduled to visit Cozumel but thanks to Hurricane Nate, our itinerary was changed.   It ended up being amazing since we unexpectedly met up with my aunts and cousins who live in Nassau.

Although I didn’t get to go to Puerto Rico or Aruba.  I did have some unexpected trips to San Antonio, Nashville, the cruise, as well as soon local destinations.  For 2018, I’m hoping to be a little more conservative with my travel because of my anticipated busy schedule with school.  My travel goals include going to California, Los Cabos, and Philadelphia.  These are all places that I haven’t been to before so I’m really hoping that I get to visit them as well as any unplanned destinations.

What destinations do you have on your list for 2018?
